Iconic Business Owner helps small business owners make informed decisions through practical articles, guides, comparisons and tools. This policy explains our standards for creating, updating and correcting content, and how we distinguish personal experience, research and commercial relationships.
Editorial responsibility
Iconic Business Owner was founded by Sally Siyakatshana. Sally’s finance and accounting background, experience starting a bookkeeping business and work developing IBO inform the website’s practical approach. We aim to explain both opportunities and limitations. Read Sally’s story on our About page.
How we choose topics
We focus on questions relevant to starting, running and growing a small business, including finance, planning, operations, productivity, marketing and technology. We prioritise useful explanations, realistic next steps and resources that help readers make decisions suited to their circumstances.
Research and sources
We aim to support significant factual claims with relevant, reliable sources. Where possible, we use primary sources: government agencies, regulators, original research and official product documentation. Statistics should identify their original source, date and context. Rules, taxes, grants and business requirements should identify the relevant country or jurisdiction.
We distinguish proposals from measures that have taken effect. Readers should check linked official guidance before acting on information that may change.
Personal experience and illustrative examples
We distinguish firsthand experience from research and general commentary. When an article describes Sally’s experience, it should reflect something she actually did or observed. We do not present invented experiences, customer stories or results as real.
Hypothetical examples and sample calculations are labelled as illustrations. They are not promises of typical or guaranteed results. Personal experience may not apply to every business.
Product reviews and comparisons
Assessments may draw on hands-on use, product documentation, pricing information and other relevant research. We identify the basis of an assessment and do not describe a product as personally tested unless it was used for that assessment. Research-based comparisons should make that clear.
We aim to explain who a product may suit, its limitations, alternatives and comparison criteria. Prices, features and availability can change; confirm current details with the provider.
Affiliate links and sponsored content
Some links are affiliate links. We may earn a commission from a qualifying purchase or action at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships should be disclosed clearly in relevant content. Commission opportunities do not justify unsupported claims, invented testing or concealing significant limitations.
Paid sponsorships, free products and other material commercial relationships should be identified where relevant. Sponsored content must be distinguishable from independent editorial content.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Read our Affiliate Disclaimer.
Use of artificial intelligence
AI tools may assist with brainstorming, organising information, drafting, editing and creating illustrations. AI output is not treated as an authoritative source. Our standard is human review of AI-assisted content before publication, including material factual claims and sources.
We do not use AI to invent qualifications, interviews, personal experiences, testimonials or testing results. Where AI makes a substantial contribution readers would reasonably need to understand, we explain its role in the content.
Calculators, templates and resources
Our tools support learning and planning. Outputs depend on inputs, assumptions and limitations. We aim to explain material assumptions, currencies, jurisdictions and tax years where relevant. Estimates are not personalised professional advice or guaranteed outcomes. Check important calculations before relying on them for financial, legal, employment or tax decisions.
Updates and corrections
We review content when we identify significant errors, receive credible feedback or become aware of relevant changes. We do not guarantee every article reflects every development immediately. An “updated” date should reflect a meaningful review or change; it does not mean every linked product has been retested.
When a correction materially changes an article’s meaning or advice, our standard is to explain it on the page. Minor spelling or formatting changes may not receive a separate notice. Some older content may require further revision to meet these standards; readers are welcome to flag concerns.
Scope of our information
Our content is general education and information. It does not replace advice from a qualified professional who understands your circumstances. Information for one country, industry or business structure may not apply elsewhere. We do not guarantee financial, business or search-ranking results.
